Great Outdoors Travel truly opens your world and allows you to appreciate the magnificence of other cultures and nature. Last spring I had the opportunity to visit Amsterdam, and the cobblestone streets, museums, shops, and quaint little restaurants were glorious. The highlight of the trip was a trip to Keukenhof gardens, where more than seven million tulips were in bloom. It is hard to describe the majesty of tulips in every shape, size, and color mixed together in one magnificent garden setting. When I returned, I had a renewed appreciation for beautiful gardens and their importance in creating an inviting approach to a home and a place of respite to the homeowners.
In this issue, Kelly Caron Designs and Court Atkins Group infused a family friendly abode with color in Palmetto Bluff, South Carolina. Designer Paige Schnell teamed up with architect Carson Looney to create a sophisticated country estate just outside Nashville. In Alexandria, Virginia, Alex Deringer considers her 1912 historic home as a canvas that constantly changes to reflect her personal style and the needs of her family. Caroline Willis incorporated family antiques and a collection of art to breathe new life into a Buckhead home.
Landscape architect Gavin Duke is our featured designer, and he discusses the importance of both style and sustainability in creating spaces that are as welcoming as they are beautiful. On Trend showcases the latest in outdoor furnishings, and I think you will agree that outdoor living areas have never been more stylish. Treillage is the topic of Antiques Obsession, which has a rich history of adorning both interior and garden spaces. Southall is a retreat located outside of Nashville with a focus on sustainability in conjunction with an incomparable experience.
I hope this issue inspires you to celebrate outdoor living and the gardens that enrich our spaces.
